Running with no MAF

today was at the junkyard, saw a 91' Z28,**** JUST got there. nice iroc wheels, new front clip,350,rear spoiler. it was real nice, but motor was probably blown or some ****.

i took the brand new shiny K&N off of it. goes right into the throttle body.

i go home and toss it on my 87' 305,goes on fine and sounds great.

is it ok to just unplug the MAF? i know it's not great to,but what's the effects? i know people that run their ride with no MAF,but it has it in the system. i want to get some of your opinions on here.

thanks

You will be lucky to get the car rolling with the maf unpluged, the car will run very rough, almost just like taking all the plug wires and throwing the on where ever

that's what i thought. i figured it would run really rough, bog and die. ran just as good,if not better than with the MAF off.

Are you nuts? You want to take one of the most important sensors off of your engine so you can put a cool looking air cleaner on it? By the way, that open element air cleaner now allows your engine to suck hot air. This is worse than having a stock airbox that is routed to a cold air source.

Not true. When I first put my motor in, the MAF sensor was not working, so I unpluggd it until the new one came in. It ran perfectly, I even went through inspection with it unplugged and it passed with flying colors. This was with AFR heads and .503 lift cam. The only thingstock at the time, was the block and the intake.

MAF

When I bought my GTA I brought it home and found that not only was the MAF on backwards, the inside wire was broken off. The last owner had stuck a garden hose in there thinking he would get more air.
I could not believe that the car ran at all like that. I bought a new MAF sensor and some PVC at Home Depo. The car sure runs better than it did before but I still can’t believe it ran at all before.

With no MAF the cars computer will default to the open loop settings for the engine. Worst case is if you run it to long like this the computer may go into limp mode which will make it have just enough HP to get home and run a bit rich just so you dont break anything.

It is blue with silver flames. I have only been in Glen Burnie for about 4 months though.
