Distributor Noise

I have a fairly new distributor in my 88 T/A,and if the car has been sitting for an extended period of time, once I start it there is a medium pitch whine coming from the top part of the distributor area..
It has been getting quite colder in the past few weeks and that is when i first noticed it..I thought it was maybe a pulley/belt but it is coming from the back of the motor, and it does it in park..thus the tranny/drive line is not involved.
Once I put it in drive it goes away in a few short minutes after driving it around..it does not seem to change pitch when i hit the gas.
I would think a worn distributor shaft/gear would make constant noise..but this goes away in a few minutes...bearings or bushings maybe?
Car runs great no missing or nothing...a little stumble sometimes when it is first driven..but that quickly goes away, and that is something that has been going on even when I had the old distributor in it...
I would hate for something to break off and get in the bottom end of the motor...it almost sounds like it is outside of the motor though its so loud..then it just goes away...any ideas?

Could be a bushing, it could also be the endplay of the distributor. The reason it goes away (if this is the case) is because when the motor starts to warm up, the metal slightly expands and helps take up excessive clearance. I had this on my dist...It turned out to be the endplay. Might wanna check there.

I dont know if you installed this new distributor because the gear on it broke .
But If you installed this new distributor with a new gear onto the old worn out gear that is still left on your original cam than that could be your problem.. You should have kept the same gears that wore and meshed now you have a fresh gear that will probably eat the crap out of the old worn gear.

Thanks guys,
I think its a bearing or bushing to be honest..the distributor is not even a year old..might get another one under warranty..
I thought maybe it was the gear too..but figured it would do it all the time with that..its weird sometimes is does not do it at all then while I'm driving it,it does it for a few minutes then stops...

Always a new one with this car.....
