Corner of the engine compartment, on the firewall, in between fender and master cylinder.

Actually there not. Same relays, different part numbers. I thought you could too, but I couldn't, now I see why they are different part #'s.

Are those labelled correctly? I ask because I bought a new burnoff relay from the dealer and the p/n matches the book. However it looks exactly like the one labelled for the fuel pump.

I know the power is labelled as such. I'll just unplug one of the others and see if the car starts. If not I know which one is the fuel pump relay

Well I did mean the power/burnoff relay, anyway mine were two different part numbers and both worked.

David, it's only polite to thank or give credit for that or any pic that you use that belongs to someone else.

Thanks Vader.

re:relay interchangability

Some years have the two MAF interchangable, some all three are interchangable, some only one MAF and the f/p interchangable..

My 89 has the newer style oval relays for the power and burn and the older style square one for the fuel pump.

My 86 has three square relays, all different part numbers, they are not interchangable, I found this out the hard way, the motor ran but kept stalling.

you know I've got the same issue and reading this thread got me more confused LOL. car runs rich, won't idle right, about 1500 rpms hot or cold. codes for rich, and mass air flow and burnoff codes. i'm a mechanic but these tpi cars are confusing, due to year to year differences. mine is an 88 tpi 305 iroc z. any ideas to help?

I have diagnostic charts for the codes if you need to know how to track the issues down....

anything at this point. but it seems with the codes i have the problem could be any one of the three causing it but which one do diagnose first. meaning the rich o2 code could be set beacause it is running rich, but is the maf causing it too run rich or is it the o2 itself?or the ecm could be causing all the codes. I'm little stumped on which way to go

Exactly which codes are stored?

It seems a 45, a 36, and either a 33 or 34.

I would not dwell on the rich O² just yet. Once the ECM sets a MAF error, it will operate the engine on Backup Fuel parameters, when tend to be quite rich. Repair the MAF circuit problem, and the O² may settle out as a result.

Thnks to all who replied. I finally gave up, took it to a specialist in wiring & computer diagnostics. He found a couple bad terminals in ECM plug & a frayed TPS wire. Thanks again.
