need wiring help!

ok here is the story. I swaped to an 89' maf computer from the 85' maf puter. after the repinning and everything, no fuel pump! It drove me nuts everything not linked with the ecm such as gauge cluster and accessories like locks and stuff worked. Anyways, i thought it was somthign i did wrong with wiring, so i yanked the ecm harness out and installed a, 87' harness i had lying around. still no fuel pump! low and behold, it was brought to my attention that ther is a 20 amp fuse near the batt for the fuel pump. Sure enough, i replaced the 20 am fuse and the fuel pump primes. The wierd thing is, my interior stuff started acting up for instance, there is a white wire for the door sensor that is broken, and nothing would work untill i completed that curcuit?! I didnt think much of it at the time, and since i never finished completely installing the 87' harness, i decided the re-install the 85' harness. Today, I got it hooked up and I have NOTHING! there isnt even arching when i connect the neg terminal on the batt. i have all of the block grounds and the main ground for the neg terminal hooked up, what on earth am i missing?! i dont thing that not connecting all of the little piddly grounds near the batt would have anything to do with it
