Is it possible..

to build a 383 out of my old 305 block? i have been told that they are the same block but can a 305 be worked into a 383?

Nope,
the 350 and the 305 share the same crank, but the bore is much smaller on the 305. There is not enough material in the block to bore much more than .040(?) so I heard. I seen Super Chevy magazine put a stroker kit in one and got it to be about 335 or something around that size.

As a side note, the 305 and 350 cranks are balanced different also, i believe.

thanks, so instead of trying to use my old 305 block im just going to have to find a another 350 and bore and stroke it ?

the 305 and 350 are differnet blocks actually. You have to have a 350 block to start with before making a 383
