a freind of mine was wondering how can you put a gear drive on tpi without it sensing detonation and retarding the timing??

You can do it because the gear drive setting off the knock sensor (the quiet one anyway) is a myth that wont die.

I am running a Pete Jackson quiete drive in my car and have been for a while now. I still have the stock 305 computer chip in the car and it seems to be just fine, other than running very rich! I have never been shown any proof that they give false knock, just heard the rumors of it. I have yet to run any diagnostic software in the car, but I am pretty sure that I do not have any false knock at all....

I too have been running a PJ quiet gear drive in my 87 305 for about three years. When I bought it from Summit, I was told NOT to use it in a computer controlled car. As Madmax put it, it is a myth.

Ive heard of a couple people running the noisy one with no problems, and some had problems. I never tried it myself, so I cant say for sure. The quiet one is plenty noisy IMO.
