You can start with all the free mods. These free mods increase your power and make a noticeable seat of the pants (SOTP) differnece. The free mods consit of porting your intake plenum and base (if you have a dremel), removing the screens on your MAF senson, by-passing the throttle body coolant, making an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and if you don't hvae to pass emissions, you can gut your catalytic converter, remover your smog pump and all AIR and other emissions stuff, and you can remove your A/C if you don't use it.

The next thing to do, if you haven't done it already is to do what I like to call a performance tune up. You already have good plugs, get a good MSD or Accel cap and rotor kit, put synthetic oil in the engine, tranny and rear end, adjust your TPS and IAC and make sure your engine is in prime running condition.

Then, the first real mod I suggest to people is a high flow cat-back, which you already have with your flowmaster. My suggestion now would be to get a set of headers. I know a lot of people, especilly with the 305 who really like the 1 5/8" TES headers from Edelbrock. After that, you can improve your drivetrain with a new set of gears (3.42 w/ auto, 3.73 w/ 5 speed), and if you have an automatic, you can get a higher speed stall converter. You can also look into cams and heads to improve your engine. Since its a 305, spending lots of money on high flow intake parts usually isn't worth the money from what I have heard.

The mods I listed above you can learn more about in detail in the tech section of this site and also at other sites on the web. Vader, a moderator here at thirdgen, has an article he can email you on making your own AFPR.

You can also swap out that crappy "870" computer. Go with an '86-'89 "165" ECM. That way you don't have to worry about that $961 MAF Burnoff Module when it goes south on you.
