GOING TPI
GOING TPI
Ok since no one in engine swapping has anything to say i'll bring my questions here.I've currently got an 89 RS with TBI i also have an 89 IROC hit hard but with a good tuneport in it my first question has anyone done the TBI to TPI swap in here and also what else is involved in doing the swap besides changing ecm, fuelpump, wiring, new throttle cable, detent cable and cruise control cable i've already taking the top end of the IROC and don't wanna tie my car up with the swap so any help would be great..

Right now i have a 350 with a holley on it cause my 305 took a crap, didnt know anyone with a tpi system and didnt have money. Well about a month ago, my girlfriends brother told me he had one, and i bought it off of him, cause ive always wanted tpi, i hate carbs, there such a pain and bad in gas and starting. I know the tech page shows how to switch from tbi to tpi speed density, but what about switching to mas air, which is what i bought.

Switching to MAF is pretty much the same thing. If you can do one, you can do the other.

but isnt there different sensors that you will need, and stuff like that, like i believe theres no knock sensor, or do you still have to use a hydraulic roller cam

Yes MAF cars use a knock sensor, but its a different type than the speed density cars. And all our cars from 87 and up use roller cams. 85 and 86 engines dont roller cams, even with TPI. Where do you come up with this stuff?

why do you always say the 305 and 350 knock sensors are differant? I looked it up at work for my 88 305 tpi and 350 tpi and both had the same part # did gm mess up? I work at a gm dealer and I find it odd that they have them listed the same but, maybe you know some thing I don't also it would not be the first time some thing did not match right from gm

I dont know either. All my research says only the MAF and SD have different knock sensors, the engine size doesnt matter. But other people say it does matter. *shrug*
i think were getting brudel info on the tpi engines my mechanic says that the 305 and 350 engines are different tpis says there pretty much the same the only difference is the injectors and a prom
