If you're running 14.48 now, porting the intake and heads wont give you 5 tenths, more like 1 or 2 tenths.

Check out http://www.sa-motorsports.com/ for pics of head porting. The same things apply to TPI porting. There really isnt anything in the way of porting the intake, so just be careful and dont port too far. Dont make the intake larger than the head opening, as that will create a ledge and kill airflow into the heads.

thanks guys,
well today my clutch went bad and i think it probably costed me a couple tenths as well because its the stock clutch with 114k miles on it. hopefully i'll get it all done in a week or so. then i think with all the porting and a new clutch and maybe some gears i can hit a 13

You probably already know this, but do only one change at a time if you can help it. That way you know what the change did.

I was wondering what size headers you have --5/8 or 3/4? I'm going to get headers for my 305 and I was not sure if the 3/4 headers would be too much. I've posted before and people recommended the 5/8s. Thanks.

I don't know about 305 heads, but I got 30%+ flow imporvement on my AL Vette heads through porting. A generic head porting may only get you 5 -10% more power, but have a pro do it and it'll be like driving a different car. It's all about the shape of the ports and runners, not the size.

I ported my own 305 heads, and I've ported about ten TPI plenums, various runners, and an intake. There's pictures and suggestions on my website for both:
