rough running (miss)
well heres a quick background ever since i got the car it's ran a little rough with an intermittent miss, i've just now got fed up with it enuff that i'm trying to figure it out. The engine is a jasper rebuilt crate engine with less than 45k on the clock.
heres the latest update...... found a couple things i'm unhappy with but, for now it's just going to have to do i think...... Also it feels slightly lacking to me on a top end. I ran it at the track last year when i first got it and netted a 15.1 best with a 2.46 60 footer and a 92mph trap speed (had dead rear tires). Should be good for a mid to high 14 second pass i would expect which seems spot on but, it had the miss at this time too and also it ran way overly rich at the time too. Now i've got it leaned out a bit and added rockers, and a new set of plugs/ reset the timing.
plugs and wires are good, cap looks to be good and newer but, i can't get the bitch off someone stripped the bolts. planning to replace it 1 of these days with an aftermarket billet dizzy since they are so cheap anymore and i think mine has 206k on it i think.
anyways heres the worst thing i found out today... The heads that are on it are 187 casting. if memory serves me correct thats the tbi casting head, which isn't as good and uses a much different spark curve from what i've read compares to a tpi head without the swirl ramp in the chambers.
so basically heres my main problem, intermittent misfire..... The engine is a little mismatched come to find out and has full bolt-ons
specs:
187 head casting should be 081s i do beleive
21lb accel injector (ohm out fine at 14-15 ohms hot) should be 19s.....
180*f t stat should be 195*f
lower temp fan switch (kicks on at like 180*f or a little less i think) should be 210*f....
edelbrock headers and y pipe
borla 3 inch catback
jegs 1.6 ratio full roller rockers (should be 1.5 ratio stamped)
fuel pressure currently at 41 psi line unhooked (mind you these are 21 lb not 19s like should be in it) should be 43.5 lbs.
base timing to 8* btdc timing.
only thing i don't know is if theres an aftermarket prom in the car i highly doubt it but, it's possible since there is a lower thermo and fan switch. I'll get this figured out soon too.
in the mean time considering my factory tpi prom, using tbi heads does any1 have a theory of whats best for base timing? I know my old l03 car was factory spec'd at 0* btdc and the new tpi is 6* so you got me here....
also would like to have a guess at what a full bolt on lb9 car should use in terms of fuel pressure taking in to consideration the injectors are 21 lb per hour not 19s as they should be.
ps. let me know if any1 has any other theorys or ideas on how i can get this girl dialed in a little better without buying all the prom burning software.... For now without the prom burning equipment i'm guessing i'm pretty damn close to my limit as long as i can get rid of that intermittent miss
ps2 the roughness is actually missing btw to better describe it. Only does it under load it seems..... I dunno i'm pretty annoyed with it tonight seems nothings worked correctly maybe i'll get a chance to play with it tomorow depends on my work schedule.

Re: rough running (miss)
My car was missing when i first got it too.... did a compression test and had almost non existant on cylinders 3 and 5.... head gasket was blown between the 2 cylinders..... at the thinnest point of the gasket so no coolant loss or anything..... currently rebuilding it and found the other head gasket was about to go too in the same spot.... just one possibility tho....

Re: rough running (miss)
well heres the latest i hooked it up to a snap on scanner and found everything to be in great order accept 1 or 2 small problems.
the tps voltage was maxing out around 3.5volts instead of 4.5 volts. The idle tps voltage was set to .48 v instead of around .93v or whatever that it's suppose to be. I'll reset this over the weekend and note any improvements.
block learn was a surprising 128 ......... No idea how. Computer kept saying lean though and i barely got any crosscounts on the 02 but, it was in closed loop and showed the value fluctuating but, i never got it over mid 500 mvs..........
nop codes of course
fpr is set to 41 psi line unhooked, base timing to 6* btdc. Changing fuel pressure and base timing seem to have little to no affect on overall drivability or more so overall power even. In otherwords my sotp notices no differences after at all.....
going to order this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...LLBUY.m311.lVI billet distributor 2morow. After its here i'll install it and reset base timing to 6* btdc along with installing my new msd wires.
have yet to check the computer and prom to see the model # or if there has been any modifications but, i'll reupdate every1 after i reset the tps voltage or replace the tps sensor tomorow depending on if it was adjustable or not.

Re: rough running (miss)
The earlier adjustable tps will work in place of the fixed one.
Adjust the top bolt slot forward or back for idle and the bottom for wot. try
.54 volts at idle and anything over 4.5 for wot.
