what to cross to get codes to come up from ecm

what to cross to get codes to come up from ecm
ok i am tryin to pull up codes but under my dash i dončt know which ports to stick the paper clip in so the codes will come up there are 2 ports on top on the left side and one on the bottom on the right hand side there is 3 on top one on bottom i think but i dončt know which ones to stick the paper clip in any help at all will be appreciated.
