fuel gage problem or car?

fuel gage problem or car?
I took my car to blockbuster today to get GTA 4 which is amazing, I found a camaro too! Anyway, its about a mile down the road and i dropped my friend off who is on the way. I pulled out and floored it to make them happy and when i did my gauge dropped from 1/2 to 1/4 of a tank in about 2 sec. Any guess on problem
