TPI 327

I have been thinking of fuel injecting my pickup next summer, and thought some of you 3rd gen guys would be able me out. I'm trying to get an little background info before I really get into it.
Here's what I'm thinking. TPI from a 350 on a 327 with an Turbo 350 tranny. I'll probably switch to the new vortec heads if I can get it to bolt up (will it, and or can it?... I think I Pace Pontiac has these heads with the older intake bolt pattern).

Also...here's my cam specs
.454/.454 lift
duration at .050 218/218
lobe separation 110

I was thinking I may need a custom chip made to get it to work with my cam. I read that fuel injection doesn't like that small of a lobe separation.

How much money am I looking at for a TPI setup? What year would be the best. From what little I've looked at, the 86 year looks like it might fit my needs the best.

I'm trying to get some good info here

The only way to get vortecs to work with TPI that i've heard of is the Scoogin manifold at $400. So If you go vortecs yes they're cheap, but the manifold sure isn't. Also the 327's design is less stroke, more bore, and is more geared for revving and getting some R's out of it, and TPI doesn't do that well, if you're bent on a 327 go with a carb, if you're bent on torque go with TPI and a 350 or 383, hope this helps, good luck!

My truck already has the 327 in it, that's why I'm using it.

Gotcha

might want to consider something other than tpi, you'll most likely be displeased on a 327, either that or swap yer crank

From: nlr, ar
use either a minram or converted LT1 intake
manifold for the 327 combination. yes revs
are what 327s do best and the short runner
configuration is better. but in a truck, you
might refigure your plan. 6000# vehicles
require a lil more thinking and attack than 36-3800#
f-body cars. either carb or injected your
'off line' perf will be poor. unless youve
got some gear (3.9-4.1) and/or stall. youd
be better suited with the 350, vortec head,
LPE211/219 cam, TPI w/large tube for upper
breathing. really any more than this kiss the
torque factor outta reach. the above combo
can be used with 3.50-3.08 gears and perform
well. any more and you might outta think stay carb.
cost... 1200+ for induction, cam and mini mods.
trucks are almost twice the weight as f-bodies.
so what works well for them will only be a bit
slugish in a truck. intead of buying a new
truck im building a research on what works on
trucks..maybe by spring ill have some data..
till then.. rethink your combo... wont work
without some severe reworking and tuning.

well, I havent read the others replies b/c Im too tired and want to go to bed....But, I have A LOT of experience w/ 327 motors and can tell you this. No long runner set-up will get along w/ that motor. The 327 SBC revs to the moon and needs to breathe waywaywayy up top. SO, thats out. Actually, I strongly believe any form of "TPI" is out of the question. I would without a doubt go to a carb.
