Automatic to 5 spd With TPI

I'm actually swaping a TPI setup into my 5 spd Carb car. The TPI, ECU and harness came out of a Automatic car. I know I'll have to modifiy the harness for reverse lights and such, I'm just wondering if the ECU needs anything to run correctly on a 5 spd rather than an Automatic.

Will there be any running issues with the engine since it will be a stick?

I tried searching and didn't come up with anything.

Thanks

you'll just need the tranny the five speed setup clutch pedals harness and computer froma 5 spd car and it'll be plug n play.

Re: Automatic to 5 spd With TPI

My car was orginally a 5 spd car. I wish I could change the title to this thread.

I guess I want to know what will happen If I use a Auto TPI ECU with a 5 spd trans. Will it run right?

ECU yes, chip no. You will also need to hook up a VSS.

Re: Automatic to 5 spd With TPI

Like Aaron said you can use the ecm. You will need to get a chip made for the 5spd and get a vss signal from the tranny.Any tranny shop should be able to get you the proper parts to do that depending on what tranny you have whether its a cable driven speedo or not. From my experience you can essentially start the car and drive it without having vss signal....but i dont recommend it for a long period of time because the ecm does rely on vss for proper management due to engine speed once it knows your in gear.Right now my tranny took a dump on me and i dont have vss at all.My car drives but i dont have second gear...mind you the ecm knows im not in park or neutral but doesnt know to advance timing etc when i start getting up in revs so it drives like a bag but it made it to my shop.

yeah they hit the nail on the head dude the process is easy, and in most cases you find your ecu for the 5 spd from the donor car you got the 5 spd from. unless your buying it new from GM and in that case i would assume it would come with one as well.

Automatic Prom works fine with a Manual trans.
