EGR Solenoid - which port goes to the EGR?

Engine: 5.7 ZZ4 Vortec TPI
Transmission: 7004R
EGR Solenoid - which port goes to the EGR?
Which port of the vac solenoid goes to the egr? The metal port that is in front of the coil, or the plastic one that's away from the coil? Hard to tell from books and diagrams.
