Code 42!

89iroc is throwing a code 42. It runs smooth idles smooth, but has a big exhaust leak on the passenger side manifold and just feels like a dud. No torque

Re: Code 42!

Well, since you can do a google search for the code, replace the manifold gasket for the exhaust problem, did you have a question for the board or just letting us know how your cars feeling?

Letting you know how it's feeling because people obviously never post things on this site if they need help. Nice to have another sarcastic ***** to add to the list of things that don't help

Re: Code 42!

Just wanting to know if the exhaust leak can cause the code 42, and the knock sensor or whatever sensor to go off and cause loss of power, as I stated before. Thanks

exhaust leaks on the motor WILL play hell with TPI .fix that first.code 42 has to do with the ign. specifically the module behind the relays on the right side near the brake booster.or it could be that the brown wire with a black stripe (EST bypass) is un plugged .good luck and let us know how it turned out

I spent a lot of time dealing with an issue like this but I didn't get a code 42, have you checked the grounds and the wires off of the ecm and your timing? also check the module on the distributor and coil. if its the electronic spark timing it could be anything from that circuit sorry I cant be more help.

The code came back on after a few times running the car so I replaced the ECM and it hasn't shown up since, it ended up being the ECM and a bad icm.
