Testing issue with a MAP from a truck?

I've had a hesitation issue for quite a few months and thanks to the help that I've received on this site, I'm almost certain the issue is with my MAP sensor. I've put off buying a MAP sensor until summer when my internship starts, which is why I haven't gotten around to buying a new one yet.

However, with that said, I was helping my dad replace the IAC on his truck today and noticed that the truck looks like it had a MAP sensor on it. The truck is a 1989 chevy 1500, 350 SBC TBI. Would I be able to take the MAP off his car and put it on mine just to test to see if my MAP sensor actually is shot? Or is the sensor on his TBI just a look-alike and not actually a MAP sensor?

You can try the MAP from the truck, they are nearly if not identical. To check the MAP part number look for a 3-number hot stamp code on the top above the electrical connector. Odds are it will be either 039 or 460, which are interchangeable.

Thanks! I pulled the MAP out of the truck last weekend and it had the same number stamped on the top. I threw into my car and...

it didn't help at all. So I'm back to square one. At least I know the MAP is working correctly now.

You only tested the sensor
Could still be a wiring problem to it
