Another cam selection

I've been trying to figure out what can would be best suited for my build. I have a 91 firebird 5.7l board 30 over. It has trick flow heads 175 cc and 56 chamber. I know there small heads but they were really cheap and they flow better then stock. I have the edelbrock base and runners ported. 52 mm bbk throttle body shorty headers 24 lb injectors, 1.6 roller rockers. Compression is 10.5:1 and its hooked up to a 700r4 beefed up with a stage 2 shift and a 2600 stall. The car is mostly going to be used for weekend driving with the occasional trip to the track. Looking for 2000-5000 or more rpm range . Any help with a cam choice would be appreciated.

Re: Another cam selection

here is a little secret that I have been keeping

I bought the lt4 hotcam from them and they already advance it 3 degrees so you can run the cam straight up and get more power out of it. I think it was close to half price from buying it at a retailer

So with the lt4 with a 3 degree advance built into it should give me a bit more top end? What are you running for your engine combo?

LT4 Hotcam 3* advanced would not be straight up...It would advance from a 109* ICL to a 106* ICL, bringing the total advance up to 6*. Straight up would be a 112* ICL with the LT4 Hotcams 112* LSA.

Re: Another cam selection

I talked to Willhotes and asked him if the cam would make more power if I degreed it and he told me to run it straight up because they had already advanced the cam. call him and ask about it

it makes power all the way to about 5600 rpms. my runners are ported a little past the half way mark. I could not tell you how much hp and tq its making but it pulls pretty hard.

Re: Another cam selection

I just called them and they said the cam is 130 dollars plus 15-20 shipping. they make all kinds of cams. and the advance on the cam is 1-2 degrees I was wrong

But 130 for a roller cam that is made from the same cores as everyone else uses is an incredible deal

Re: Another cam selection

Hotcam can work but may be alittle more than what you want in that combo.

Something alittle smaller advertised would be alittle tamer at idle.

5000 rpm powerband is more like an comp xe 212/218 deal. Hot cam equivalent 218/224 could work well and has less advertised duration so alittle better idle manners
