L98 from Vette for Camaro 86

Hello everybody.

Some information about me: I live in Moscow, Russia and i have Camaro 1986. It was TBI 5.0, so i sell this engine and bought LB9, after that change it to LT1, but my dream was L98... and i found it near Moscow.
So now i have L98 from Corvette 1986(87?) with alum heads.

Total rebuild, BUT

I have some questions:

1. How to remove 9th injector?
2. I want MAP system. What change with engine should i do?
3. Is there any parts of engine (alternator, AC, starter etc.) that i should change and buy new from camaro/firebird L98?

Maybe you can advise something before i will swap it.

Thank you, dear friends!

Total rebuild, BUT

I have some questions:

1. How to remove 9th injector? You can purchase a block off kit from summit racing. The ninth injector is programmed out of speed density setups.
https://m.summitracing.com/search/pr...injector-plugs
The fuel rail on f-body's tpi goes on the left hand side of the engine.

2. I want MAP system. What change with engine should i do? Nothing , you will need a map bracket no boss on that plenum but it can be mounted on the bulkhead.
3. Is there any parts of engine (alternator, AC, starter etc.) that i should change and buy new from camaro/firebird L98?
You can reuse your accessories or upgrade to 88-92 f body serpentine setup. The starter should be a large body like your 305s.

Maybe you can advise something before i will swap it.
I didn't think tbi came out until 88 maybe you have x fire.
There is a pinout for the tpi sd ecm 1227730 in the dfi ecm stickies section.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/dfi-...730-749-a.html
You can also use the corvette 1227727 weatherproof ecm.
You will need a vss buffer from a later tbi or tpi f body to change the signal to a optical signal. The computer chip will need to be programmed to accept this. Or with a cable drive speedometer you can use this .

Thank you so much for your answer.

Now we have this:

My friend told me, that maybe it is f-body long block, but not sure.
What do you think?

Looks like a vette engine to me, it maybe a 88 the heads look like d port exhaust. If the casting number ends in 128 it's a 87 if it ends in 113 it's 88. 89 up wouldn't have the ninth injector.

Yeah that's a little confusing, as TBI should not have come in your '86 Camaro unless someone installed it. Should have come with an LG4. TBI started in '87 with trucks, but I'm pretty sure the F-Body's didn't see them until '88. Your L98 is throwing me off too. The corvette's got the aluminum heads for the L98 in '86 with the verts, but midway through the year GM gave all C4's the aluminum heads in '86, but the roller cams didn't come out until '87. At the same time, '86 was the last year for the large cap distributor, yet your engine has the large distributor along with a roller block from '87.

Then the heads come into question. In '86 and most of '87 the C4 L98's got the 128 aluminum heads, but mid/late year the '87's received the 113 aluminum heads. So now we see that you have a roller 350 from either a '87/'88, cylinder heads from either an '86/'87/'88 Corvette L98, and a large distributor from an '86 Corvette L98. The former owner more than likely slapped a large cap distributor onto either an '87/'88 Corvette L98, but to be sure which year, you need to throw up the engine's ID number on the front of the block. We would need to see the head numbers too...

I will make some photos in 2-3 days.
By the way, why should i change starter from original corvette to 305/350 f-body? My friend swap TPI L98 from vette to Caprice with original small starter. No problems

I will make photos of all availible part numbers.
Camaro 1986 was IROC for Europe (all info under the hood in German and Euro mirrors). Maybe TBI in 86 was for Europe

Thank you all for you answers!!!

I have to check Brian, I haven't been on the Corvette Forums in a long time, but I was almost positive that GM pulled the plug on them for the C4's as well after '86. Joe might know for sure though...

Eliminate the '86 as being a possibility for his engine then, because from what I just read on the Corvette Forum most guys opt to go with a conversion harness for the smaller HEI distributor, or as they like to say, a "Camaro" distributor lol. All it is, is an inverted set of wires. But yeah, it appears the C4 ran the fat cap dizzy up until the LT1 came around. Good catch Brian...

Re: L98 from Vette for Camaro 86

The suffix is a partial vin, I'd guess it's a 88 with the cold start injector and 113 heads.

I would use the vette intake otherwise you will need to elongate the intakes cente four holes.
