super ram

i have a 91 Rs 305 TBI and plan on droping a 350 in soon but i was wondering what i would have to do to swap to a super ram intake with big mouth base. would i just drop it right in and be done, or is it a real PITA. I do plan on getting a costum burned prom, so no worries about that.

The Super Ram is a real pain the a**. I just got finished with this installation. I have to say that the super ram is poorly machined and not everything fits the way its suppose to. The miniram is a better bet since you haven't started on this project yet. I would definetly do a miniram setup if I had to do it over again. keep in mind that my engine is 383 and my shift points are 6500 rpm. If you are running a less agressive setup and wanna go throght the pain the a** installation, then the super ram isn't a bad performer. But it take a good weekend to install it. Keep in mind that the Miniram is NOT emissions legal.

The SuperRam is no walk in the park to install, but it won't take you a whole weekend. Set aside a good afternoon, and it will go together. Its tedious work, but not hard, and well worth it.
The more times you do it, you get alot faster too.

Install is a pain, like 87 said, it's tedious. The toughest part are a few bolts on the underside of the plenum. But that aside, choosing between a MR/LT1 and SR depends on your goals and how high you want to rev. If you don't want to rev higher than 6000 rpm, get the SR b/c it will have more low rpm TQ than the MR and breathe well to 6000. If you want to rev past 6000, say 7000 rpm, get the MR. The MR will produce more power, but you have to spin the engine higher to get it, which also means a bottom end built for that type of rpm, valvetrain to support the rpms, steeper gears, and a higher stall in a car with an auto tranny. Just somethings to consider.

If you do go SR, I highly recommend the LPE 219 cam, too. Awesome combo!

You dont mention it, but I will. You cant use a SuperRam with a TBI engine. You need to convert to TPI first, and use the SuperRam components instead of the TPI stuff. The TBI computer wont handle the 8 injectors and everything that goes with a SuperRam. Make sense?

Hey Pimp, since you're in SoCal, you can have my dad convert your TBI harness over to TPI like he did his.

The "conversion" from TBI to TPI is not hard - many have done it. You need to get the proper ECM (depends if you want MAF or SD) and then get the appropriate harness for it. Then it all just plugs in.

The ECMs can be readily had from a wrecking yard for both MAF and SD by asking for the ECM out of another car that used either the MAF or SD ecm that you want. I personally would recommend the SD conversion, since you won't need a MAF sensor and you can reuse your MAP sensor from your TBI car.

Also, you won't be able to convert to a Miniram (or converted LT1) unless you can hook up an EGR. You should also talk to Kevin a little more, since he too is in California and can help you with the "emission laws".
