Do I need A.I.R???
Do I need A.I.R???
I'm going to building a miniramed 355 and i'm puttting on SLP 1 3/4 headers. I saw that Resources is running a special on them so i thought i pick them up now. Anyway, would i need the AIR tubes in the headers or not. I don't plan on getting rid of all my emission stuff just the EGR or is the AIR hooked into that? I really don't know here. Also, any thoughts on keeping the emission stuff would be helpful. I know people so it's not a big deal about the EGR or emissions. I'm sure people are gonna so then, get rid of it all but i don't see then need unless it's robbing me alot of hp.Thanks in advance.

You CAN get rid of the EGR without getting rid of the AIR stuff.
In regards to the emissions comment, it depends on where you live. Many states in the US don't require the "sniffer" test, only visual inspection. There are many places around where I live here in Missouri that don't even pop the hood during an inspection and I'm sure it's like that in other states too. Heck, I had the last place put my car up on a lift and look under it and not say a word about my cat being gone.

I dumped my AIR when doing valve seals, and it does clean up the engine compartment nicely. As they do not do emissions testing of ANY variety here, it is just not a problem. The only problem I had was the crossover tube that runs behind the engine, how in hades do ya get that feller out of there without dissassembling the top half of the motor????? Too much stuff in the way. (dist, wiring harness, assorted brackets......)
Where I live in Ohio there is only a sniffer test and I've learned that as long as its well tuned and you have a cat, you'll pass. But if you have a vis check too your better off getting the A.I.R. pipes. Later.
