converter bad?
converter bad?
Car sat over the winter time because of a dead start, replaced the starter, and started the car. It sounded great. When I put the car in gear and step on the gas alittle hard I hear a clanging noise coming from under the car near the torque converter. take my foot off the gas or let up and it stops or put it back in park and rev the engine and there is no noise now.
Is my converter going bad? if not then what could the sound be?
Its an 88 with the 350, all original with about 40,000 miles
Thanks

Continuous, rythmic clanging, or single noise?
I'd be more suspicious of a broken tranny mount.

I was assuming it wasn't rythmic.
Check for loose converter to flexplate bolts. If not that, then perhaps the converter is bad.
