help, 700R4 problems!
First things first. I took my car to the track the other weekend and it wouldn't shift into 3rd worth a crap at anything less than half throttle. Well after i made about 6 passes, I was on the back track and it wouldn't shift into 3rd at all. I let my car sit for awhile. I came back and it hit 3rd fine on the way home, but not it has trouble going into OD. It seems like it will only go into OD at about 10% throttle. I'm not too worried about OD because I need 3rd for the track. I went 14.43 @ 86! HELP!

Is the fluid level good, as well as the color of the fluid? Does it smell burnt?
Those symptoms are very similar to what my first tranny started doing, I swapped it before it went.

well actually, when i started driving home from the track, i smelt a weird smell. Something i've never smelled before. Almost like burnt electronics or some kind of friction. As far as fluid level goes, I checked it after i had the problem, and everything seemed ok. I plan on taking it to my tranny shop. The tranny was rebuilt for 400hp when I put my motor in. That was about 6 months ago. Could my torque converter be in question here also?

If your torque converter was a problem, you would notice it all the time.. You have clutch problems if it happens only when you shift into 3rd.. If I remember correctly though, if your 3-4 clutch pack burnt up, you would loose 2nd gear?? somebody correct me if I'm wrong please...
But I don't think its converter related...

If the RPM's go sky high during shifts before they finally grab you'd best get that tranny fixed, or replaced.

damn....that tranny is 6 months old, but I have a 12 month warranty on it. The only problem is that in a month and a half I leave to go to japan for 3 years. (air force) I want to get a good track run in before I go and I dont want to spend a ton of $. Seeing how I ran 14.40's at around 85, it makes me believe i can nail a mid 13 or better.
