I recently found an ad for a 1991 Pontiac Firebird Formula with a 5.7L 350ci engine. But it has a five speed manual in it! I thought that you couldn't get a 350 with a 5 spd in a third gen F-body. Is there something that I'm missing here or is the tech info on this site incorrect?

 

It's not very hard to put a 350 into a 305 car; or to put a 5-speed into an auto car. Either of those things could have been done.

Or, more likely, it's really a 305; and if you call and ask, you'll hear "It runs too good to be a 305" (yeah right) or "The previous owner said it was special ordered that way by his uncle/brother-in-law/friend that worked at GM" (yeah right) or "It's a Vette motor" (yeah right) or "The previous owner told me it was a 350". Lies, every one of them, every single time. I think that should cover about all of the most common lies you'll hear.

If you're really interested in buying the car, go look at the block casting number, which (unlike people selling used cars) doesn't lie. If you're not, don't get too worked up over it, odds are pretty good it's just another lie from a used car seller.
