Cleaning 700-R4 'case'
Ive started tearing down my trans and there are alot of deposits on teh inside of my 700-R4. Pretty much every surface has at least some deposits on it. Should I worry about cleaning the case itself after its entirely disassembled? Would be nice to start off with a clean case to reassemble but it seems like doing any sort of cleaning may jsut drag even more debris into the passages of the case and contaminate it.

Transmission shops use a pressure washer cabinet with a million little jets that shoot water in every possible direction, and the case sits on a turntable and spins slowly.... you could take it to the quarter car wash after teardown and accomplish the same thing, by removing every plug and cover, and sticking the wand in every hole. Use Gunk Engine Bright (diesel fuel in a spray can) or the store brand of the same thing, to loosen what's on the outside, while wahing it. Don't do the valve body that way though; soak it in lacquer thinner for a couple of days, slosh it around every now and then, then let it dry. I don't recommend disassembling it.
