turbo 350 driveshaft length

i'm getting ready to put a turbo 350 in my 87 camaro, i know that everyone says to use a driveshaft from an 82-84 camaro but i plan on just getting a new one made, does anyone know the length it would need to be?

lot would depend on which th350 you got. if you have a long tail shaft th350 there's a very good chance you'd need to get one made the same length as the one you have in the car now. just take it and tell the shop to make anther one like it.

if the trans tailshaft is the same length, you can use the same driveshaft!

i think there's about zero chance the tail shafts being the same length between a th350 and a t5 or th700r4. however if the overall lenght were to be the same you might be on to something.

If he has a 9" tail shaft on the TH350 the driveshaft he was using with his 700R4 should work fine.

The driveshaft/yoke is the same for a long tail th350, th700, t5 and t56. Its the same between third and fourth gen cars too. Kind of nice.

If its a short tail th350, then i dunno.

well you either have a 3inch, 6inch or 9 inch tailshaft. the 9 inch is a direct bolt in swap and what i'm using. it's the same length as a 700R4 and uses the factory driveshaft. if you're using the other TH350s that were made then the driveshaft must be 3 or 6 inches longer than the factory one. get a tape measure out and see what you have.

The driveshaft from your 1987 700R4 will work fine with a 9" tailshaft TH350. If you have a 6" tailshaft TH350, the driveshaft needs to be 3" longer. If you find a 82-83 f-body with the 3 speed auto (metric 200), you can use that driveshaft with a 6" tailshaft TH350.

little details like the tail shaft size make a lot of differance. now if i paid attention in school it works out to a 3" differance in drive shaft lengths between what you have and what you need.

Measurement is from center of u-joint to center of u-joint.

If you're going to have a driveshaft custom made then you should get a custom measurement. Once the tranny is in, slide the slip yoke all the way into the tranny then pull it back out 1". Measure u-joint to u-joint and that's the exact length you need.

why dont you just go to the boneyard and find one there?i know around here they keep driveshafts in piles.just find one 3" longer than what you have, with the same yoke.a good bet would be a 4 door car if they dont keep their d.shafts in a pile.or better yet i might even have one!
