changing rears will it work?

i have a 87 camaro with a 10 bolt drum with 273 open.i found a complete rear out of a 84 firebird witha 10 bolt disk 373 ration limited slip.what is involved with changing the new rear over to drum brakes from what ive read its just switching the components.is this correct? Also i would like some opinions on whether or not anyone thinks this rear will make a big improvement over the crap that was on there.can anyone pont me in the right direction on having my prom burned to accept the changes and shut my damn check engine light off

I'm not too sure about the brakes, but I think you just have to switch the components, including different brake line fittings. I did the same swap as you want to .. 2.73 dif. to 3.73 posi .. and I really liked the difference. Also, if your car is carburated, you don't have a prom, and changing your rear end won't affect the tune of your engine.

you want to switch the drums you have to the disk rear? i think all you'd need to do is just unbolt backing plates and swap. you ought to be able to do it without unhooking brake lines.

I may be wrong but rear disk brakes take less fluid pressure than drum brakes do. so you might want to get the pressure valve off the car with the disk's. its mounted under the brake mastercylinder.

Why not simply swap rear ends?
