Does anyone know what the drive and driven gears are in a transmission, I'm not sure....
I have just put a 84 trans am rear end with disk brakes in my 92 Firebird conv and the ratio was different..
92 6HP 2.73 Standard
84 6HN 3.23 Posi

What is needed for this job and how do you do it. Or is it even nesessary? Also I plan to change my 700R4 to a T-5, should I hold off on changing the drive and driven gears until then?

 

i have to assume whoever you were talking to was talking about your speedo gears? you will have to end up changing the drive/driven gears for the speedo to get a correct reading again
and if your swapping soon yes just waiting would make sense, the speedo gears for the t-5 and 700r4 are different

errr. but if thats a direct quote, find a new source for information.

 

Thats why I came to this forum I was in brakes Because I was changing the rear end to Disk and needed advice on the brakes. The very very helpful people in that forum refered me to the transmission and drivetrain forum.

How much does the difference in ratios affect the speedometer??
Say the speedo says I'm going 50, how fast am I actually going??

Also what gears will I need for the t-5
