Transmission Question
I need to change my transmission, and was wondering are all the 700r4's in are cars with V8's interchangeable. I didnt know if the electronics on the transmission would be different from TBI and TPI engine or if mattered.

Re: Transmission Question
Yes all V-8 F-Body 700R4's are interchangeable. It doesn't matter if it came out of a CFI,TBI,TPI, or 4bbl carbed F-Body. There are however, differences
in TCC solenoid wiring,speedo gears,and governors. I just swapped a 700R4
from a 91' L98 Z28 into my 86 T/A with LG4 carbed 305.

Re: Transmission Question
No problem, glad I could help. If you can, try to find an 88-up 700R4. The 88 and up 700's came with 10 vane pumps, aux. valve bodies, and other refinements over the early 87 and older 700's. When you find one, get the ID
off of it and post a thread on it. Another member has helped me tremendously with my 700R4 questions(thank you very much Mikz86TA)

Re: Transmission Question
You need the tailshaft off an f-body transmission so the torque arm will bolt back on.

Re: Transmission Question
Yes you can use a 2wd P/U 700 as well, like Kevin91Z said, you will need to use your tailshaft off of your F-Body 700 to mount the torque arm. The 700 in my T/A now is out of a 91' Z28, but the tranny that I took out was a 700 out of an 86' Silverado 1/2 ton P/U. It was still working when it was pulled, I just wanted another F-Body specific 700R4(and an 88-up) tranny back in my car. The Silverado 700(aka theTired 700R4) served me well for 8 months, that
includes the occasional 630 mile round trips from N.C. to D.C.(hometown) and back.

Re: Transmission Question
You're right vbMike, late 87-up 700R4's had 10 vane pumps. It's just alot easier to look for an 88-up 700R4 with 1987 being the crossover year. You could find a 700 out of a car that is an 87' model, but it could've been made in late 86'(early 87'model) and had the 7 vane pump. Bigj350, if you can check
the pump serial #. If the last 3 #'s end with 732 you got a late 87-up 700R4.

Re: Transmission Question
Hey thanks, just picked one up from Denny at thirdgenranch.com. Real nice guy. I think he said it came out of an 88.
