A few months ago my 1989 700R4 took a dump on me, so I went with the GM reman unit with the 3 year/50k mile warranty.

The trans works perfectly went running from a stop, and even shifts into 4th gear at WOT.

The problem lies in its downshifting. When rolling from say, 55mph, and flooring it, the trans downshifts to 2nd, and then it feels like 1st gear, but almost instantly hits the shift RPM (5200), and goes back into 2nd, then to 3rd at the appropriate time. The only time it downshifts correctly is when I am going slow enough to catch first gear.

I brought the car back to the dealer, and they claim that nothing is wrong with the trans.

Anyone have any idea why this trans shifts like this?

EDIT: If my mph for each gear seems high, its because I run a 2.73 rear

What RPM is your governor rated?
By the way, at what RPM does you 3-4 shift occur at WOT?

My stock governor was 5200 rpm

This one is a little less than 5000 it seems

Never looked at the RPM for 3-4
