Welcome to thirdgen.org.
I'll move this to the Transmission forum, but sounds like rebuild time.

Re: Trans problems
yea its rebuild time, the band is gone in it
may i suggest a real good HP build up on it, i got mine built real strong and made for the drag strip, and its sweet, it loves to lay rubber shifting the gears

Re: Trans problems
It's probably not the band. The band is applied in 2nd and OD. I'd be more likely to suspect the direct (forward) clutch or the 3-4 clutch stack. Once these start to wear a little past the service point, the apply pistons tend to over-extend and stick, causing rapid wear of the clutches and steels.

It's probably time to remove the transmission and install some new parts. If you want to see how easy it is, check here:

Re: Trans problems
the part shown is actually a forward piston and o.r. piston. The one with the problem would actually be the 3-4 piston located at the bottom of the input drum, and possibly the 3-4 clutches. Pull the trans., stand it up, pull the pan, pull the filter, pull the t.c.c. solenoid, pull the aux pipe from the pump, remove the pump bolts, use a pry bar between the pump and reverse input drum to remove the pump(important to do it gently!!!!!), release the band from it's anchor with a screwdriver(it's easy), pull the input shaft up and out with the band drum(reverse input drum) still on it. the aluminum drum top set of clutches is the 3-4's. they will probably be burnt. get new clutches and steels. take the input drum to a local shop and have them replace the internal seals as if you try to do it you will rip the rubber(takes special tools), put it back together in reverse order. You can do it!!!!!!
