Is there a direct or near-direct replacement for our POS rears?

Well I'm making plans for a 383 swap into my snail of a car, and I've heard from several sources that the 9 bolt 7.xx inch rear in my car won't hold the power. (Expecting over 400hp) Anyway, is there any direct or easy to install replacement for third gen rears? It also needs to be realitivly strong. Any ideas?

------------------
'89 Firebird Formula 350
L98, WS6, Red/grey, t-tops, and a 3.27:1 rear
K&N, TB bypass, no MAF screens, CAI, full Accel ignition, no cats, Hooker Supercomp shorties, Hooker 3-inch catback
ET? The POS runs 15s.
Also own '83 Firebird 2.8 2bbl. 155K miles.
ET? Break out the calendar!

Car: 88 Camaro
Engine: 427 BBC
Transmission: T400
The 9 bolt is better than the 10 bolt. My stock 9 bolt has held up with 500hp/520lbft. It has ~25 1.7x launches with slicks and another 15 or so 1.8x launches with street tires.

Other choices are 12 bolts (very good), and 9 inchers (even better).

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES,it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. 4.11's to follow soon )

Axle/Gears: 2.77 Borg Warner 9-Bolt
I'd say it's okay to bet the 9 bolt will hold up. I've seen a 9 bolt hold up to 500+ ft-lb of torque. So i imagine it's fairly strong. Heh.

Axle/Gears: 3.70 9 bolt.
'89 TTA's came with Dana 44 rears. Any that ame without them are some kinda freaky thing.

Steve Spohn (look at the top of the screen for sponsers to this site) has new Moser 9" and 12 bolt assemblies. http://www.spohn.net/index.cfm?fusea...&categoryid=34

9 bolts will PROBABLY hold but don't know how long. They're better than 10 bolts (unless they're really built). Various people do say that 400 horses is about the limit.

89 TTA's did not come with dana 44 rears, except the indy pace car. They all came with 9 bolts. The Camaro performance book is wrong.

My 89 305TPI has got a 9 bolt BW rear with 3.45's... It's MUCH thicker than my buddies 10 bolt in his 87 IROC.

I wouldn't worry about the 9-bolt until you break it.

Times in my sig were made with the stock 9-bolt using SLP 3.70's and MT slicks. No problems, even when I replaced it with my Dana 44. New owner of the 9-bolt is happy...
