305 tpi to 383 carb swap question

I have decided to ditch the 305 tpi and the 700r trans in my 86 for a 505hp (at the fly) 383 with a turbo 350 trans, so heres the questions, will there be a trans mount issue? what fuel regulator should I use ( theres a mechanical fuel pump on the 383 now)? what other issues will I be looking at? I'm sure there has to be a few people on here with something remotely close to what I'm doing so any pictures and advice is greatly appreciated thanks.

Re: 305 tpi to 383 carb swap question

You'd be better to keep the 700R4 - better mileage.

With a TH350, you'll need a trans mount and a torque arm mount - so you're spending more money to make the TH350 work so you can get less mileage. Your 383 won't kill the 700R4 - it'll kill the rear end long before that.

You'll need a return-style regulator like the Mallory 4309 - you can then change out the mecanical pump on the block and install a blockoff plate.

Re: 305 tpi to 383 carb swap question

Someone had said that I would need something for the 700r (something about the converter) to make it work with the 383. Not sure what they said though. thanks for the info on the regulator, always like to see part numbers when I venture off into something I have never done before. Any part numbers for any trans kits that would be a good idea to pick up as well? Also, I'm 98% sure that the 82 posi rear end would bolt right in but to change from drums to disc I also need to pick up.......? I ask because #1 I want disc in the rear as well and #2 I can pick up the rear end with 4:11 gears, drag suspension, cowl hood, and short tube headers for $500 off a friends old drag camaro (82 Z28) hes about to scrap.
