Car: 89 iroc-z28 vert
Engine: 305 v8
Will not shift past second
I am completely confused with this issue. The other day I was driving on the interstate and it seemed as though the trans just down shifted out if nowhere. Later that day I was driving it and noticed that it went through first and second gears fine but when it should've shifted into third it just drove up to 4000 rpm and won't shift any higher. I drive an 89 iroc-z 395 tbi. If anyone has any input or knowledge of what could be causing thus issue your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just had the same problem and a unusual cause. The full throttle shift cable seal/rubber grommet fell into transmission and lassoed the shift mechanism. Can get to the mechanism by dropping the oil pan. probably would not hurt to go ahead and change the filter and oil.
