83 Camaro Base diff is????
The code sticker in the glove box is gone, I've searched for a casting number on the diff housing but its unreadable. Im having a hard time finding out what diff this car came with stock without pulling the cover. Im assuming because it was a V6 it probably came with 3:73 but im not sure. Any help is good help. Thanks.

th350 has 1 to 1 final ratio so you will be tacking well above 3000 rpm at 70 mph with 3:73 gears and I don't know of any other way of narrowing it down with out pulling the gear set.

Count the cover bolts. Pop the cover and look for the stamp on the ring gear, or count the teeth on the ring gear and pinion.
Probably not 3.73s. 3.23 or 3.42 would be a lot more likely with the V6.
Edit: If you really want to avoid pulling the cover (do it anyway) you can mark a tire, and the driveshaft. Turn the driveshaft and count how many times the tire turns. It'll give you a rough idea. But go ahead and pull the cover, the gear oil is probably due to be changed anyway and you'll know for sure.

Re: 83 Camaro Base diff is????
moser has a 12 bolt rear end for these cars for 2500 bucks may want to look at verses trying to beef up the 10 bolt witch is only good to about 425 hp and if you like hole shots and a above stock torque convertor don't waist your money on beefing up the 10 bolt. also 700r4 stock sun gear is a disaster waiting to happen worth the effort to replace. these observations are based upon my experience only.

Sometimes the sticker is on the back of the spare tire cover or jack cover or in the console.
Keep hard street tires on it and the 10 bolt might live. Quick Performance has a nice package with a Yukon Dura Grip, gears and a USA Standard installation kit for a good price. I'd recommend trashing the 26 spline axles and get some 28 spline axles.
