Tick stage 2 rebuild t-56 with monster lt1-s clutch
Im going to have my trans rebuilt at a local shop from quite a few referrals.I bought a stg 2 rebuild kit from Tick with the following upgrades:
- 5/6/reverse bronze pads
- 1/2 inner cones
- new snap rings
- bronze isolator cup
- timken bearings
- 3/4 steel fork
Currently i have a monster twin disc lt1-2 clutch and a tick master cylinder. My clutch is a yr old and has worked flawlessly till now with more power my trans makes all kinds of rattle noises both at idle and driving, I get a vibration at speeds above 80mph.I just recently started having issues of being locked out of all gears. I spoke with monster and both agree i could also have a hydraulic issue and would be best to go to a stock master cylinder and change to a better fluid.Should also make driveability much easier in traffic. Ive already upgraded my driveshaft 3 weeks ago and checked axles to make sure my issues were not rearend related. My trans has close to 160k on it so its due for service ..hopefully this will breathe new life into it for awhile.

Was able to drive my car to 40 mins away to drop it off and have my trans rebuilt and check out the rest of my driveline while its apart. Im praying the damage isnt too severe and that my clutch is also in good health.Im strapped for funds but I will get a stock master and perform the drill mod when funds allow.
If all goes well I should have the car back next friday...and be testing at the strip sunday and continue to make videos.

Good news, the trans shop called me today and my car is ready for pickup. The rebuilder checked over and serviced everything as I requested. He flushed my clutch fluid since i knew it had dot 3 in there and it also had air in the system. The pilot and throwout..slave etc were all mint and had 0 signs of improper wear. the trans internal bearings on the other hand needed to be replaced..but my gears were in good health..fluid needed to be flushed in the trans. All in all he said yes the trans was overdue for a rebuild but the stage 2 kit i got was the perfect kit for the parts needed to fix it. The inner cones and bearings especially. Ill post up once i drive it back home and can maybe lay into some power.Just happy nothing majorly was wrong.
Sadly looks like rain this weekend at the track so I doubt Ill be getting a time slip to post for another week

So did you end up going back to the stock master? what did you think about it going from the tick to stock? Im getting ready to change to the monster twin disc also and was just curious if i should keep my tick mc or get a stock one.

Yes I did end up switching to a stock mc. The tick was great when I had my ls7 clutch but with the twin disk it was a bear to drive. Now with it stock..the clutch feels like a modern car.Its very fluid and controllable. Id recommend going with stock for the monster twin disk..and they also said to stay with a stock master and depending on where you get a stock one from..maybe do the drill mod.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Did you use a gm master or a parts store one? I talked to monster and a couple others that said with the lt1-s that you can use either the tick or stock mc, its just when you get to the race versions that you have to use the stock style. But i couldnt find anyone that had acutally used both. So i appreciate the feed back. And with having the drill mod done to your stock mc are you able to shift without issue at higher rpm still? Thanks again, its appreciated.

I got mine from gm direct which was a revised newer version so I didn't have to do the drill mod. I can shift in the upper rpms without issue.
You can use either mc but with the tick being a lot more fluid flow/pressure..gives you a harder clutch pedal and you have to pay extreme attention to setting up the pedal travel or you can prematurely wear the pressure plate.
My left leg is much happier driving the car even in traffic with the twin disk and stock mc.Its a perfect blend of performance..clutch feel and ease of driveability vs having the tick previously no matter how much I tried to finely adjust it my leg would get very tired after a full days event.

Makes since, do you by any chance have the part number of the revised master? when i searched their site the one it showed was listed as discontinued, it was Part Number: 18060784.

No sadly I don't have the part number on hand.I ordered mine from gm parts direct I think. It was the whole assembly with the fluid reservoir attached and already bench bled and fluid in the reservoir. All you need to do is swap them out and plug the line in and good to go.I tried bleeding the system afterwards and had 0 air in the system.Easy swap
