8.8 explorer rear
Hey guys,
I need a little help.
I just bought a 2001 explorer rear with 4.10 gears 31 spline. It measures 59.25. Looks like our rear measure at 62 inches. I have vette wheels that I am running 3” spacers already.
1st question is I’ve heard of people shortening axles but not making them longer. The short side is 27 and the long side is 30 I believe. How doable it to increase the short side a couple inches?
2nd question is they have backing plates for disc brakes for setup for ford bolt pattern. Could I get moser axles with our Chevy bolt pattern and be able to use the same size rotors with the ford calipers?

Why not just start with a F150 rear end which is already wider? Many of them had the same gears and the Traction Lock differential. You are going to have to do some serious suspension work to get either one to work in a 3rd gen. Yes, you can get Moser axles with the 5 on 4 3/4 bolt pattern, or just send the Ford axles to Moser and have them drilled.

I bought some nice brackets from race craft for the suspension plus the hiltsy torque arm mount.
I didn’t research the f150s so my loss is guess.
do we think it would be still cheaper to find a f150 rear and cut my losses? Or just extend the rear?
also looking at the rotors the explorers came with 259mm rotors. If I find ones the same diameter but our bolt pattern would they work?

A S10 guy would be happy to take that Explorer rear end. It's a very popular swap for them. Check into the F150 rear end and see if it would fit your needs better. You can redrill your rotors for the correct bolt pattern.

Do you know where I can can find verification on what Broncos/f150s came with the 8.8 and what the spline is?
if anything is just keep my carrier plus 410 Gears

I don't know, but there is probably a F150 forum somewhere that would have information like that. Most of the F150 8.8 rear ends that I've seen had 31 spline axles. You can check the gear ratio and look for the L on the tag if it hasn't been removed.

Ok so after searching I found a 4th gen ls1 Camaro rear. Those tubes measure up at 3” could this be adapted to my explorer rear that has 3.25 axles?
If so this would also solve a lot of problems regarding suspension. And wheel spacing since they measure at 64.5”
just would need to buy 2 custom moser 31 spline axles in our bolt pattern
