Good Bye 2.8ers

Hi everybody,I just solved my 2.8 problem.I traded in the firebird
for a 96 ?T ?u?t?n?.

The day I got it is the day I got beat by a 4 door saturn.
So the next day me and my wife went to look for a new car
we found a 96 Pontiac Transam 6 speed 5.7 the outside looked
real nice the inside looked like crap,I said okay I can fix this,
then i asked to start it.oh man it sounded like crap, check light
was on,motor was shaking alot and it backfired alot and he was
asking $9999.99 for it.So we kept looking and then this black
beauty caught my eye.Fully loaded 5 speed.I don't want to say
anymore out of respect for the thirdgen people.

Good Luck 2.8ers

The people "not loyal" to the third generation f-bodies are probably a little more sane than the rest of us. I think it has a lot to do with "old car mentality"... think about it; the newest any of our cars could be is 11 years! By then, the interior's worn out, the engine and trans are tired, those rubber suspension bushings (control arms, tie rod ends) and suspension "wear parts" (idler arm & center link) are beat, and the paint is shot. And it doesn't help if everyone in your friends circle is buying new cars!

Case in point; got a friend with a '92 Cavalier that's in mint condition, aside from all the crap in the backseat and trunk. She wants to get a new car. I asked why, because it runs great. She told me that it's got 65,000 miles on it, and it's old, and this is when all the little things start breaking, and she doesn't want to be nickle'd and dime'd to death to pay for these little things to fix the car.

Okay; so she's talking to the wrong guy (car is 16 years old, 233,000 miles, third trans, second restoration on it's way)! But her boyfriend got a new truck (he's allowed, he's always filling it with stuff for his job). 99% of our friends have new cars. Guess who's the 1% with the old car? Me! My car used to look the best; now it's looking like crap- but that's because of the rusting rear quarter (getting replaced this summer, and soon!) and the paint. So you put a new car up against an old car any time, and the new car wins in all aspects.

Course I'm insane, and love working on my car. I want to bring it back. I know I can, and make it better than new (except for maybe finding good seats for cheap) for less than it would cost me to buy/finance a new car. Many people add all that up, realize they have no resources to do it themselves- and probably don't WANT to do it themselves, and figure it'll be cheaper and make "more sense" to buy a newer car.

2.8Weakling said he was beat by a 4cylinder. Most of us would want to make the car faster. By his profile name, seems like the 2.8 was giving him problems, and he hated it- so he probably has no desire to work on it, and just sees his money being wasted. He's probably got the right idea! But you won't see me going that direction. The only piece I haven't taken off my car? I haven't unbolted the dashboard from the firewall, and I haven't removed my engine (although I removed that 2.8 from my friend's old '89 Camaro). Everything else has been out at least once.

well at this point I am loyal to the 3rdgens...had my 85 SC 2.8 for 2 1/2 years was very happy with it and had finally scraped the money together to get it painted and the little dents and dings fixed...then some jackass slams me in the left front wheel at 40mph...so I took the money and went and bought an IROC new motor and trans later I have less than 5k in a car that outpreforms many new cars and *I* can work on...I know too many people with new cars that are always having to take them in to get it fixed, sure warranties are nice, but you shouldnt need one if its so great to have a new car JMO

2.8, I didn't mean to offend you at all. People have different reasons for buying a newer car, and I figured that I might offer a different viewpoint.

Did you put those items in the thirdgen.org classifieds "for sale" section?

My Firebird broke so I had to drive my 1974 Corvette with 138,000 miles on it.
It's a tank of a car, but...
crawling in traffic I could hear the posi discs clacking
New Corvette?
NOPE!
New 2002 Camaro/Firebird
YEP!!!!
I love the 1985 but....
Maybe my new interior coming this week will liven up the ride again!
New alternator sure did!
So did operational AC!! and no overheating!!

OK, heres how it goes! Let these pion by there $10,000 neons, cavaliers and lil crap mobiles. But when they see me in one of my firebirds both thirdgen bye the way they know I can make them my bitch. Then people ask me how much I bought my car for. I'm like 25, there like $25,000 I'm like no idiot $2500 then they have the look on there face like there the most complete idiot in the world. Then I'm like I could buy 4 firebirds for the price that you bought the crappy neon for. SO then they leave crying as I smoke the **** out of them down the street. All I ask is RESPECT the thirdgens boys and girls. Theres not much good ones still on the road.

I agree on the good looking third gens. Even out in LA area.
Mine ain't yet, but, now getting closer.
New interior coming this week.
THEN find those outside panels (front nose, rear bumper front driver fender).
Mine is so dirty, to many local fires and so busy with stuff.
Then when I feel like washing it, SO HOT, no shade.
It getting closer, tho....
I do have to wash it today to go visit inlaws.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!
