When my step-dad was a service manager for Pontiac - he did a test run in a turboed bird(I forget what year) - He said something about a "Bat out'ohell". I'd try to find the turbo stuff from the V8 Bird and cut it down - But if you have a turbo V8 why would you cut it up to make a V6?!?!??!!
Or get the turbo stuff from a Fiero or Grand Prix and try to make it work.
But the best advice I can give is:

GET A SECOND JOB, AND SAVE UP ALL YOUR MONEY!!!!

I have a bolt-on supercharger sitting in my garage , but I'm not sure I will ever get the time to try it on the V6 . I'm sure I would have to put forged pistons in the engine.
The situation is I also have a modded 350 V8 and a 5 speed Tranny that I could also put in the car .
But for now my car only has 89k onit and is still running good ,so I'm not going to do anything to it for a while.

Yep, Time & Money - if I've got the time, I don't have the money - if I'm knocking down the money, I don't have the time.

To back up a minute: the reason I say Save up a bunch of bucks - is that it isn't somuch a technical problem, as it is a Money problem. With enough Time & Money just about anyone on this board could put a turbo in an F body (or find a Speed shop that can). So... you save up say, $2K ( I'm thinking 3, but l'll be conservative), OK, you have TWO THOUSAND dollars in your hot little hand and all of a sudden you can think of two thousand other things to spend it on... Like Girls!! and Parties!! and Motorcycles and Kayaks & More Girls & More Parties. And so despite your good intentions, you slip away and we never hear from you again - all our hopes that were ridding on you, are dashed a-sunder!! Some of us go off and join the French Foreign Legion to try to forget. Some of us try to forget by chacing women & partying - TomP is shattered and takes up collecting STAMPS!!!
Oh, the tragedy!!

Oops!, I goofed (again?) I thought my step-dad said that turbo Trans Am he drove was a V8, but a quick check of the manual shows it to be a 3.8 (1989 TA). So there you go - most all the parts you need are available from GM - all you've got to do is fit them from the 3.8 to the 2.8. Piece of Cake.

All kidding aside - best of luck,

3.8L grand national motor to be exact in the TT/A's
not TO hard to come by, but kinda expensive
and FAST AS HELL
the 3.8L and 2.8L blocks are COMPLETELY differnt
3.8L is a buick motor, and the 2.8L is a chevy motor,
so you would need a differnt trans for the swap
anyone out there with a carb'd 2.8L? with a edelbrock performer top end?

I didn't mean swap in a 3.8 motor - I meant swap the turbo & suff off the 3.8 onto the 2.8. The 3.8 is wider and you prob. have to custom make some exaust manifolds, etc. but it should be doable.

Everybody barks about changing the trans. but after fighting those back engine/trans bolts - pulling the eng. and messing up the torque converter putting it back in - having to pull the trans & install a new torque converter, I'm thinking it may be easer just to pull the engine/ trans together - get it on the ground swap the engine then stick it back. So a trans swap ain't that much mo' push. Besides if this TURBO makes as much power as you want - the FIRST thing that you're gona do is blow the transmission!!

Uh a gm motor is a GM Motor. The heads are different between the GNX and the T/A. The passanger? manifold is different, the drivers the same.

there are a LOT of differances between a buick motor, and a chevy motor,
B.O.P.'s or buick olds pontiacs needs a BOP transmission, if you TRY to bolt a buick motor to a chevy trans, you wont get it fully bolted on, the bolt patterns are differnt and the dust cover wont fit
of course this means TRUE BOP motors, 2.8L's in a firebird are chevy motors still
but a turbo'd GN motor is STILL a BOP motor
trust me on this one
a 3.8L buick motor wont fit on a chevy transmission,
ive been involved in a swap that included a early 80's buick motor from a junkyard that had a blown trans (found out after we had it in the car and running) so we had to bolt up the closest trans to us, a chevy 350 i beleive and wowzers i won a 6 pack!
it didnt fit!
