More Power
Why does it seem like my motor has so much mor epower when i first start it up in the morning then after it warms up? I mean, the motor is running fine, but seems like less power. I was thinking maybe its because the oil is thicker? What do you guys think? Thanks

Well, oil actually thins out when the engine warms up. This frees up horsepower.
The reason it seems more powerrful when cold is because the O2 sensor is not "turned on" yet. The car is running in an enriched mode when it is cold. Once it warms up, the o2 sensor starts monitoring the fuel/air ratio.

If i unplugged it, would it do the same the whole time? Or would it go into open loop mode or something? Such a big difference. Thanks,

Well, unplugging the O2 would only aid in making the car run like ****.
If you are after this power, the sensor that needs to be messed with is IAT (intake air temp) sensor.
There is a way to fool it into thinking that the incoming air is colder thus boosting your fuel comsumption and giving you more power.

I mounted that thing in the nose of my firebird before the radiator so that it thinks all the air coming in is as cold as it's gonna get depending on time of year.

This is where my car running at a lower then normal temps, makes me keep it that way. Running cool it runs strong and hard all the time. When before, on hot days and if the temps got near 200f the car became a sluggish and not as responsive.
Though running cool can have other side affect like more carbon build up.
true cold air/ram air
No AC stuff
Aluminum air dam
stock thermo n what not.

Thats as hot as my car ever gets. The gauge does work right too. My fan never runs or comes on. Only if I sit still for 3-4 mins will the temps rise and the fan kick on.

No i didn't change the thermostat yet. What do you guys have in your car. I was thinking of putting in a 180 maybe. Mine opens around 200. Isn't the thermostat how to change? Don't you have to take the TB off? I looked at it and it lookes hard to do? Maybe you can give me some advice. I'm getting a new radiator tomorrow, so i wouldn't mind putting in a new thermostat in. Whats the fan switch you are talking about? Thanks guys

I can change the t-stat w/o pulling the tb. Its a pita, and requires swivel and extension.
I have a 185 t-stat in mine. Was told 160's are to cold for ecm equipped cars, plus it makes the heater not work as well.

Dont bother messing with the IAT i did the resistor mod and ended up haveing to buy a new CAT becasue it was running rich plus it made no difference in power. I ened up going back to the stock way with the real sensor.

It should have a 195 in it.
Size, I "think" they are 44mm. I get my 185's at a place called advanced auto.

I have a 180 t-stat running on mine and a jet fan switch, 200 on 180 off. The cars runs great. A little hard to start it does after three cranks maybe. I changed my t-stat with a bit set from ace hardware. It's called GEAR and has a hole in the middle of the socket so it's great for tine places you guys should check this out.

Yeah, I bought a new radiaotr today so that will be going in sometime, who knows when, lol. Other than that runs good, Wish it kept the power it had when it was cold though.
