2.8 vs 3.1 computer?
i'm getting ready to put a 3.1 in my 88 firebird, and i have the option of swapping the entire system over to a 91, non-maf setup. is there any performance gain w/ the 3.1 setup vs the 2.8 maf setup, or will i be time & money ahead just dropping it in w/ the existing computer?
thanks, jeff

i figure it will run fine if i don't swap it, but i'm wondering if the 3.1 computer has better advance curve, fuel mapping, etc...

Tuning software is more widely available for the 2.8s but there are a couple of programs out for the 3.1's computer. Personally I like the speed density setup better than the MAF setup but, that's just me.

well considering there are alot of people that say the MAF is another thing holding my car back, I would say you would be better off to change it if you want to do any significant performance additions! The maf will limit the air intake no matter what you do to the rest of the engine. Some say the prog is limited as well as the size of the opening! I'm trying to decide what will be the best course of action with mine to either run a larger MAF or switch to speed density!
