Whats going on with my engine

car normally idles at around 1 grand or 1500 but the car has sat for 1 day and its been driven in rain but it was not driven today it sat in my carport while it rained i got in it tonight and it idles around 500 to 670 rpms and then shuts off. but then i give it some gas and now it idles at 670 and does not shut off. what could be the problem here and how can i fix it
