v6 weight

yesterday while re-registering my car, I noticed it said weight of 3127. How valid does that sound?

1991
v6
auto
manual windows
manual locks
tilt, delay wipers.
32mm hollow/19?mm solid swaybars.

now how much weight you think I've changed that weight?
700r4 -> t5
remove spoiler
remove srs and all sensors
remove smog pump
remove egr
remove cat
remove radio and speakers
aluminum drums
spohn torqe arm
34mm hollow, 24solid swaybars.

soon to have fiberglass hood

doubt I'm down to even 3000 or less?

Very valid to me.

2.8/T5, manual windows/locks. A/C was the only option, really.

2950lbs Well, it was like 2948 or something like that

My '88 Iroc hardtop with LB9 (305Tpi) T5, power windows, locks and AC wieghed in at 3460 with 168lbs of me in it, 7/8 tank of gas and about 20 lbs of misc tools.

We'll figure 3260 empty, and how much wieght difference between a smallblock and a V6 and you could be close Dale, but if you look around you'll proably find a grain elevator, sand and gravel dealer or truck stop with a scale and you can wiegh it with you in it.

dow, so your car is 3 years older then mine, and 180 lbs less? With close to the same options?

pre-turbo or post turbo?

eric, only place I know that has a scale is the scrap steel yard. I am unsure if they would let me drive on it just to see. Plus I'm not sure how often a scrap steel yard has to have the scales checked.

Jay any scale used for commerce is generally certified and inspected regulary and they have to have the inspection on file.

Have you tried contacting your local reigion SCCA (since I know you Solo II) and finding out from a member where such a scale would be?

ok, didnt know they had to on a scedule

I did some solo2 last year. Never got around to it this year as car has had some issued, and photography has taken most my time. Plus it generally cost less to do with a subject that doesnt exactly hurt my eyes any.

I also didnt get along with anyone from that group. They all give cold shoulders to newbs around here. I think they may have one more session this year, maybe I should try to make it out once.

That was on a certified scale, outside GTR (Global Tire Recycling in Wildwood, FL)

I have a T5. That tranny weighs like 50 lbs TOTAL, rofl.

Your fluid filled 700r4 is a beast compared to the T5 tranny.

That was pre turbo... the scale actually said 3036 or something like that, then I pulled the 2 spare tire/wheels I had out, and I swear it was 2940-something. So I just call it 2950. I want to scale myself again, post turbo, but I haven't had the chance.

I dont have a 700r4 anymore That is one of my "weight saving" mods.

Cant decide if I want to ditch the ac or not.

So I should be around 3000 after my hood.

The people I met Sunday were the most friendly and helpful I could hope for. I was the only person with an American car there, it was a short course, maybe 5/8 of a mile. I worked a corner for the first heat, speaking of which it was about 95 degrees and I didn't bring a hat or anything and got cooked standing there for over an hour! Anyway without voulenteers (sp?) they can't pull these things off.

The car ended up in G-stock, even though technically the Eibach springs etc should have moved it into another class. It handled great! I just had to keep on the gas and it didn't understeer, hammer on to do a nice drift around the two near 180* twists they put in, the longest straight was maybe 60 yards.

There were only 3 cars in G stock. A late 80's VW Golf driven by a guy who has done this for 15 years, me in the '91 RS, and a mid '90's Nissan 240SX. I came in second.

Here is the battery tiedown I had to make at 11pm the night before, and a pick of the car with the kewl Kustom racing numbers!

Battery tiedown. Not lightening holes for racing speeds!
