A lot of coolant leaking.

I put in a gallon of Coolant and already it has leaked out. I checked the hoses at the front of the radiator, and where it connects to the block. It doesn't look like its coming from the water pump, but from the BACK of the engine. Has anyone come across a similiar problem.

Don't panic
Airflow causes the trail from front of car to back in 90% of time.
It's your radiator shot.
It's leaking under front hose, plastic tank.
Time for new one from wrecking yard.
Your Camaro is easy to find as it uses the V8 one, also.
V6 Firebird is unique until up to later 80's models.
Go get another radiator.
ONLY OTHER SPOT LEAKING IS
the timing chain cover.
IF not maintained rad system, it's corroding from within.
I know I had that happen too.
Actually had that spot under front rad hose break on me, too.
Now no leaks since replacing my rad.
SIMPLE TEST?
Put in the aluminum powder stop leak stuff & see how well it holds.
You may get lucky & be pleased.
I'll be giving ya a shout on the pan shipping real soon.
Resting from cleaning houe for showing & selling.

Try the powder stuff when the rad is low of fluids.
But yeah pour it in warm rad tank, not cold.
When it again leaks, remove the top rad hose.
The crack is below, there.
I'll be giving shout later on, happy to pass stuff along.

Yes Plastic tank, top rad hose, underneath that area.
During this past summer, mine went.
I had coolant leak and couldn't find it.
One stop light, my rad crack let go like Niagara Falls.
I saw the HOLE!
Then while chatting about it, atleast 3-5 others said same story.
Apparently it's "common".
I got a Modine rad from yard for $45 and been fine since.
IF I HAD not seen it, I wouldn't have believed it.
NO REPAIR REPLACE THE WHOLE RAD!
Hope this is good clue for ya.
PS That lower rad hose?
Make sure it is SECURELY ON THE RADIATOR!
Mine came off while driving and that's how I learned to do the 2.8->3.4 Long Block Swap Boogie.
I still have my 2.8 number one piston with the silver dollar hole in top from engine letting go while cresting the Sepulveda Pass of the 405 in Los Angeles.
Hose came off & I killed that engine. Oh well.

I'll second that. Couldn't find it for the LIFE of me, went a week delivering pizzas in it, and stopping at the chevron with free water to top it off between every other delivery. I thought for sure I had a crack somehow at the back of the engine.

Then that saturday I decided to pull the upper radiator hose, and BINGO, it came off in my hand. New radiator fixed it right up. Found a nice all metal version in the wrecking yard thats still working strong.
