ANOTHER 2.8 3.4 swap

i got a 88 camaro mpfi 2.8. i'm ovioulsy swapping this for a 3.4 out of
a 94 camaro. from what i hear and have read much about is that this is
a basic bolt on. i'm just woundering since i'm buying the whole engine
already running and swaping it if i can actually use the newer 3.4
harness on the rest of the car cause from what i've heard it's not that
more technical from the 2.8. and if so if i culd actually adapt in a
newer a/c cause the old one would be too costly seeing that the don't
make the same freon anymore and it's like 30 bucks a pound. Also if i
can't do the harness switchover if i could adapt the coil pack in there
instead of that pain in the *** distributer in the back of the engine.

u can just get a conversion kit to convert the old ac system to the newer stuff, u cant run the coi;pack with an 2.8/3.1 computer as far is i know, but if u were to get and msd dis box with a crank trigger u could make it work

there isnt any noticalbe benefit swaping the entire harness over to SFI, bolt on and go!, and im with dave here, as my AC was converted over, but the compressor crapped out, so i dont have any a/c component other than the controls inside, but it worked good, and with the 3.4, it wont be such a dog with the a/c on

3.4 compressor is a totally difference character. I think making the hoses and adaptors to make it work would be just as costly as getting a new proper compressor.

the evil pipe thread plug on the rear of the pass. side head. you need it out for your fan switch, i thought i could get it out by hammering a 3/8 ratchet extention into it...WRONG..that **** broke off in there soo..i found it was easier for my to drill and tap a hole in the rear of the lower intake manifold , you need a 3/8" pipe thread tap, and a 11/16" drill bit, took me 5 minutes

go read my 3.4 thread that I brought back to the top today. It should list everything you will run into.

If you have questions, post in it and bring it back to the top.

Not even close......

Though it's only been a trial from someone I've never met, but the DIS will run on an ECM that was originally connected to a dizzy, the problem lies in that you need a crank trigger. Would be worth a try, if he's swapping to the 3.4 anyway.
To use the DIS-4 you'd also need to have the GM DIS ICM fully functional anyway.

awesome well i just got one more question for now. Since i'm buying the whole engine already running i do i need to rebuild the engine with some 2.8 parts ie. camshaft, pushrods, rockers, gaskets, etc. or can i just leave it how it is since they are all the same just swap the timing cover, exausht manifold, intake manifold, water pump.

yo don't need to touch the exhaust manifolds. rest of the last sentence will work.

How come no one else likes my version of the swap?

im just curious about the bolt people say is a bitch to get out of this thing, the brass thing with the square head right? temperature sensor goes in it. because i came right out for me

also when you get the motor the only thing you switch over is the front plate, water pump, oil pan, intake manifold, fuel injection system w/ 3.4 injectors

ok well i finally got the 3.4 and there's a billion of sensors i ended up stripping it right down the only thing on it is my valve train cam shaft crank etc. the valve covers are diffrent even the oil filter has diffrent sensors the engine mounts are diffrent but they will all bolt up there was a temputure sensor in the way on the one side for the engine mounts i ended up taking it out and put in a plumbers bolt deal. there was alot more sensors on the 3.4 that wasn't on the 2.8 so i'm complteley swapping everything but the hormonic balancer (just so i know it will still be balanced) 3.4 injectors, and everything else is getting swapped from the 2.8 so everything will be working fine with the computer and all the sensors since i can't switch over the harness cause the ****in junkyard cut the new one to get it out easily they cut everything out and took my alternator. but i'm not worried i'm using my 2.8's. Now i'm just waitting till tuesday cause it's the holiday weekend to order my gasket set and heater core lines so i can do it now i got the engine out instead of later on cause chey likes to make everything hard i'm a ford guy i got this car for 800 bucks from a buddy who was moving came across the 3.4 swap and decided it sounded like an easy swap so now i'm hear trying to get some opions from you guys who know the camaros/firebirds alot more.

p/n 70672 fel-pro, about $1.08 @ advance auto, IIRC about the same at autozone, but for some reason, it says $9 and nonstock online right now. got one last summer for $1 and some change and they stocked it then...

I don't know, but now you have the part number. Felpro will list what gaskets are included in their kits.

obtw, it's called an oil filter adaptor gasket

project/dodge, would you mind posting them part numbers in my 3.4 thread for future reference?

The sensor in the way of the motor mount on the pass side is the knock sensor, and they are usually easy to remove.

AZ/Advance/ Parts Pro didn't carry this gasket, and I'm not all that broken up over buying from a dealership. Thread updated Dale.
