time to dig a hole?

My '85 has a 2.8tpi/5-spd with about 130k. When I start it cold, it fires, slows down almost to a stall, and hangs there for 20-30 seconds, then picks up normally 'till it's warm.
When I start it when it's hot, for the first minute or two, it's barely turning--don't know how slow as I don't have a tach. One time I turned the steering wheel and it stalled. The rest of the time it just acts like it will, but keeps going. After that it runs fine. It stumbles a little when you rev it, but not bad.
The biggest thing is that from 2nd gear on, it's perfectly normal, but starting out in first, it bogs down, up to 10-12, then suddenly picks up and jumps. It's not smoking, I don't smell gas, and I just changed the air filters, cap and rotor. Tomorrow I'll do the plugs. but I don't think that's it. Anything come to mind?

Ehhhhhh If I was you I would check the EGR I'm not really sure about this but take the little tube on top off and blow into the EGR valve the car should go off if not thats the problem. On mine I had to take the thing off and clean it.
