Weird accelerating

Ok the car is a 92 camaro rs, 3.1, 4 speed.
Ok now the question, How come when i put the pedal to the metal, it seems like the RPM's climb but my speedometer goes up maybe 10 mphs. I know the 3.1s dont have the best torque. Ive been told that it is my rear end's gears going out..I believe the motor has plenty of power, it can do a brake stand like a champ and runs great in city driving but when you need to pass someone on the road, i just dont have any power. Can any of you help me. please!!

Sounds like your car is running perfectly fine to me!

Sounds to me like there's a little slippage in the trans. When you're light on the pedal in the city, you don't notice it as much 'cause it's not real bad, but when you actually put some decent power through it, it slips a little.
