Tracking VIN numbers...
Tracking VIN numbers...
My mechanic told me that the sticker on the underside of my hood shows my car had a 3.1 but the engine say's 2.8mpi. On the sticker it says "FJU 3.1L" then followed by numbers/letters: "L1G3.1W8XGZX" . I used the Haynes/Chilton manual and tried to read the VIN and I have an "S" engine code, which say's "Chevorlet 5.0". Very confused. I can post the VIN if you'd like.
Had a helluva time getting the right serp. belt, car said a lot of different belts, but only one fit. He said it might have been wrecked and alot has been changed (looks stock to me) and stuff swapped in/out.
Any idea's?
Thanks.

Yea you might have a car that has been pieced together.
What year is it? Im seeing the engine code S as the 2.8 from 85-89.

Re: Tracking VIN numbers...
sounds like someone swapped the hood and, therefore, the emissions label from a later car...

Re: Tracking VIN numbers...
I'm not to worried about it cause the car runs great (and getting better with each $ I drop in to it
). That Haynes manual has to be wrong too... Mine didnt even list Firebirds in the Vin pages, just camaros. Kinda weird... Would'nt suprize me to find out my car was a piece together cause when going through and replacing alot of things I have had to un do half-@$$'ed rigged up odd's & end's all over the place. But nothing beats the feeling of working on my own ride knowing that (unlike the previous owner) I'm improving the car considerably compared to what it was when I rolled off the lot with it.
Thanks guys
