Help on Car Problem

OK I got a 89 firebird 2.8L and I am having a problem,I think I may know what it is but I just want to confirm it before I go buy the part and i dont want to have to spend the money for nothing.

OK so I noticed when my car gets warm it shuts off,and its not do to overheating.

the problem is,I will drive it for ten minutes and when I come to a stop, the car shuts off, unless I put it in neutral, but sometimes I put it into drive the car shuts off,and I try to start it up and it has a hard time starting, so I have to let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes, before it starts right up again. now I was told the Coil could be bad on the Distributor.and its what was causing the car to shut off after it heats up and it becomes hard to start,or takes awhile to start up.

when I first drove the car I had to drive for an hour on the freeway which it drove fine but only shuts off when I come to a stop or about to stop,so I gotta keep the rpm up atleased 2500rpm.

any help would do.

Thanks

Re: Help on Car Problem

I had this same problem when I first bought mine. It ended up that EVERY vacuum line, hose, connector in the engine bay was either rotted or broken. Started just fine cold, stalled when stopped hot, almost didn't restart on me a couple of times.

I am having that same problem,I checked all hoses and they are fine.which the car stalling is the only major problem for me right now, besides leaking oil.

Re: Help on Car Problem

Also check the intake gaskets, injector seals, sealing of the valve covers (especially with an oil leak), sealing of the PCV valve and tubes, intake tube connection to the throttle body, vacuum tank under the battery, check valve on the brake booster and inline to the cruise control and HVAC controls, the HVAC vac control switch, charcoal canister purge valve, EGR valve solenoid.

And then clean the IAC and passages in the throttle body if all of the above passes inspection. Also clean the back of the throttle plate.

Any other problems may be ignition related, but this sounds like a vacuum or air control problem.
