The next steps!

Well, since college is back in, I'm not sure if I'm going to do any heavyish mods soon (headwork, intake work, headers, etc). This weekend I'll be welding up a creeper (trying to make it a lowrider, 1/2" off the ground!), and using the pressure bleeder on my brakes.

Next, I see myself welding together a steering box brace (aka Wonderbar), and a strut tower brace. I still have that Trans-Am rear sway bar (24mm) to bolt on. I'll add poly bushings to the sway bars (front bar is 34mm so that's staying). That WS6 quick-ratio steering box is still sitting in my basement, too...

After that, I'll play with porting the exhaust manifolds. Maybe 1.52 rockers will go in after that... and then I'm stuck for ideas! What else is there besides doing head porting, intake porting, headers, and a cam? I know about the AFPR, but that'll wait until I do some porting.

In a nutshell, the mods I have are: complete upgraded ignition, complete upgraded exhaust after manifolds, fully modded 700r4, 3.73/posi/disc, Cloyes timing chain, chip & intake & tb-bypass & other small stuff. [laughs] Hey that aint much after all, is it?

Well, you could put in a 3.1 crank and pistons... and then your engine would SUDDENLY become a 3.1 V6. Because the 2.8 and 3.1 motors are EXACTLY the same, as a matter of fact, they use the exact same connecting rods too! The only differences are the crank and the pistons.

The 3.4 is a little different, it's a bored and stroked version of the 2.8. But the casting of the engine is exactly the same.. actually.. the 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 all come from the same cast.. just that the 3.1 and 3.4 get different cranks and pistons and the 3.4 is bored.

You could swap in a 3.4 with ease... actually, if you could find a wrecked 4th gen, you could put that 3.4 in your car without any problems at all.. your car's computer wouldn't be able to tell the difference either. They are SFI, but you can just take the block and heads.. unless of course you want to go with the SFI setup which of course is better than our MPFI setup.

LOL... I guess I didn't make myself too clear! For fall/winter, I don't want to do anything MAJOR, like head porting, or intake porting, or headers, or a camshaft or engine rebuilding.

Nitrous is out for a while, but it'll appear one day.

This is proably a stupid question but would a 58mm TB, even bolt up to our intake manifold, and Fuel Injection. Oh yeah, how much better is SFI, i was always told that MPFI was great because it delivered fuel to each cylinder when needed, giving more precise power?

MPFI fires the injectors as a group (batch fire), while SFI (sequential fuel injection), fires the injectors individually. I used to own a '95 Beretta with a 3.1L SFI engine, and that bastard hauled *** ! It had an auto, so that sucked for starting off the line (geared pretty tall in first), but once it got over 30mph, it would flat out get it.

When I covert my carbed engine to FI, it's going SFI. Problem with SFI, though, is you might need a different crank... Ignition is distributorless, and needs a crank trigger.

I don't think my engine could ever use a 58mm TB.. and as far as I know, none are made, besides custom jobs.

I'm kinda sketchy on the 1.6 rockers with the new emissions BS floating around..

And yes, LCA's are a good idea. I plan to weld a plate onto my originals to box them, but I probably won't do that this winter. I don't think I could use Steve's adjustable torque arm to it's full potential, tho. I don't really have a traction/launch problem; I have a power problem. I wish I had a traction problem!

since it is your daily driver and not just a strip monster, do the fun mods, redo the interior a bit, maybe a shifter switch? Could play with the sereo if you don't mind the weight, and go for suspension mods just to improve the feel of the ride. I'm hoping I'll have neough cash to do some serious suspension stuff in the next few months, and poly bushings all the way around. It diesn't help you go faster, but it makes the ride nice, in a rough sort of way...

The interior's restored (save for a headliner), I have a system (just weighed- 80 pounds= two amps, two subs, and MDF board), what kind of shifter switch?

I'm thinking of that PST polyG bushing kit, definately. Right now I just have the ES poly end-links on my sway bars, and those alone made a big difference.
